Seattle Fire Department Engine 25 and Ladder 10 responding to an automatic fire alarm at 412 11th Ave. at 1504 on 12/17/2008. Just before Engine 25 leaves the station, you can hear them kidding Ladder 10 that they're going to be the first out of the barn even though they reached their apparatus after Ladder 10 did. Engine 25 went on 2,925 runs during 2007, making it the fourth busiest engine company in the SFD, behind E2, E28 and E31. Ladder 10 went on 1,693 runs in 2007, making it the second busiest truck company in the SFD, behind L4. A "reduced response" typically gets 1 Engine + 1 Ladder. A "2+1+1 response" gets 2 Engines + 1 Ladder + 1 Battalion Chief. A "full response" gets 4 to 5 Engines depending on the type of structure, 2 Ladders, 2 Battalion Chiefs, the Deputy Chief (Deputy 1), 1 Aid unit, 1 Medic unit, Air 9, Safety 2, and Staff 10. SFD averages ~2 full responses per day.

  • While your doing video of Dallas you should slide over and check out some of the Fort Worth stations they too use the Locution system the downtown stations are pretty busy including station 4,3, and 5

  • @cstexasguy Thanks -- those stations are on my list! I just need to program my trunking scanner to pick up FWFD Dispatch. Do you know when this department went to the Locution system?

  • since when is dispatch automated ??

  • @pmanson0624 Hi and thanks for the question. I think the Locution system was put in about 3 years ago if memory serves.

  • what was the whole beating you out of the barn thing?

  • @ColinFWheeler wow you guys are pretty advanced. Our dispatch hasnt been updated yet but state protocol is calling for it. I dont think we'll have the Locution system you mentioned

  • @macantr what i mean is... if there is two or more engines at one station, is the numbering like, engine 11, engine 12...?

  • @starcraftguy1 For Marion County fire departments at least, no station has more than 1 engine or ladder co. I know some of the volunteer departments around Indiana have something like a primary engine and secondary engine that would respond from one station, but not here in the city.

  • @macantr how does the numbering work, if there is two or more engines, ladders etc...?

I would like to know, Thanks!

  • I wish they did that too. When they changed stations in Seattle Aid Car 5 was at Station 5 and then got switched to station 10 and was still called Aid 5
