well, I'm guessing for him these lentils & rice would last about 2 days for breakfast/lunch/dinner, if the previous/next day he bought some spices, maybe an onion & had basic cooking utensils & access to water he could subsist on dal & rice-porridge, some vegetable hopefully, but then he'd need to spend his money on other things too, & if he were supporting a family... wow.
