15 people from Okinawa went to Thailand from June 14-26 on a missions trip. There were 4 adults and 11 high school students/graduates who went. It was an Impact Youth Ministries Trip, which was ultimately a Malachi Ministries Trip. We went to an orphanage in Chiang Mai, and we also went to a refugee camp located near a small village/hill tribe we stayed in.
The refugee camp is what is depicted in this video. While we were there, we sang songs for the kids, acted out some fun skits, and played with the kids. The next day, we came back to give what we could. We used the 4500 extra dollars of fundraising money to provide soap, food, and money to people. We also brought clothes, soccerballs, and more to give to families.
10,000 people, who traveled over 100 miles from Laos in order to live in a concentrated area with nothing, live there. These people have an overwhelming possibility of being sent back to Laos in the next two years. If that happens, these people will be beaten, tortured, imprisoned, and/or put to death. We talked to two refugee ladies who were Christians. They said the one thing they want the church outside to know is: "We want to live." These people have nothing, yet they are so blessed in understanding how precious life is. Although we don't know what's gonna happen, we can pray.
Right before we left, the colonel in charge of supervision offered the orphanage missions group we were with the opportunity to set up a Bible and Medical Hut in the new camp they are making for the refugees. The orphanage will have legal rights to land in the camp. They will be able to have a church there. Please pray for the missionaries and the refugees in Thailand.
You Mentioned You went to an orphanage, was it Kids Life Ministries by any chance??
