its a push rod and keeper my buddy has a 87 2.5 did the same thing the keeper broke and the push rod pushed the rocker arm over to one side and its hitting the tabit cover hope this helps

damn mine has the same sound!!! but not all the time only one in awhile to bad my head gasket just went today

The cam, lifters, and head need to be replaced from the sound of it. Usually just the head knocks on these cars but I hear some lifters on yours.
