STOP THE SEAL HUNT NOW!

What do you think of the seal hunt? It's so cruel. The Canadian Seal Hunt is not a hunt, but a massacre. Seal Pups are clubbed to death. This year, about 220,000 seals were killed.

Here is a sad story of just one of the many killings : The pup, sensing danger, tried desperately to crawl towards the edge of the water. But the two men bearing down on her were faster. One sealer struck her on the side, then twice again on the head. He grabbed her hind flippers and pulled her back across the ice, stopping to club her twice more. He grabbed her front flipper and turned her over.

But then the second sealer kicked the wounded pup with his boot. Seeing a reaction, he motioned to the first sealer, who clubbed her four more times on the head. Not to be outdone, the second sealer grabbed his hakapik and clubbed the baby seal once more. He flipped her over and began to cut her open -- only to roll her back over so the first sealer could club her three more times. This poor baby seal was clubbed thirteen times in total.

Ok, I'll agree that they're not endangered.

But If you really think it's necessary to prove that harp seals aren't endangered and the canadian seal hunt should go on, AND you think we should'nt do anything about it, fine.

We are just trying to stop the brutal way that these seals are killed in Canada.

Yep. My main point is people who oppose the seal hunt are just following a worthless trend started by an out-dated musician trying to get attention. The seal hunt is not any more cruel than any other meat related industry like beef or chicken. They are just cute so people care more. Also don't let that fool you, they aren't intelligent creatures. They don't feel the emotions whales and dolphins do. They are just another organism swimming around. I hope that tied up a few ends for you.

You may be right but the seals are on the brink of extinction. This can seriously harm the eco system and food chain. One species relies on another. And mind you, the hunters aren't breeding these animals like they do with cows and chickens. Once they're gone, they're gone. And ALL animals can feel pain, smart or dumb.

The current IUCN conservation status of the harp seal is LC ("Least Concern") so you should be wary of the people that told you they were "on the brink of extinction".

In 2007 the Northwest Atlantic population was estimated at 5.5 million while in 2005 the Greenland Sea held an estimated 742,000 and the Barents Sea/White Sea held an estimated 2.4 million.
