Goolwa South Australia
After years of drought and over allocation of water from the Murray Darling Basin, Goolwa is at record low water levels.

What is the world coming to.
Makes you wonder what sort of future the next generations will have to tolerate/live in.
To see such a beautiful South Australian icon (river/enviroment) in this state is more than shocking, it's heart wrenching.
When will the upper states realise this is a nation emergency and stop playing politics with the situation.
A national disgrace!

yeah absolutely brilliant, i loved the before and after idea. i dont think theres any natural ecology left to be found around the lower lakes, i would write a longer comment, but theres not enough room here to post my 65 page yr12 geography case study. but i will say this. 90 or so years ago when the barrages were being built, a river boat captain who knew the area very well said, that in with these barrages, the lakes will be dead in 100 years, 90 years later, its about to come true

good work Regina! It's terrifying if you really think about it - the aborigines predict that the white man wil leventually stew in his own fat - remember the Hindmarsh bridge incident where it was a breach of their sacred land? Makes you wonder whether karma has some part to play - I remember Goolwa as a kid in the seventies - I now live overseas and it's a shock to see these images

Goolwa is now basically a reservoir due to a temporary regulator? (massive dirt enbankment) which has been built from Hindmarsh Island across to Clayton with 27.5 GL of water being pumped from Lake Alexandrina into the new Goolwa pool, this was done to manage acid sulfate soils in the Currency Creek & Finniss tributaries overwhelming the Goolwa Channel. Goolwa is now almost back to full supply level. Lakes Alexandrina & Albert & The Coorong are still in a very bad way :(
