Clear, smart, and right on target, as usual. Thanks.

I live in a tourist town in Canada... most of the tourists are Americans. If Americans can't waste their money in my town... we are royally fucked.

Actually, I really don't mind that it goes over a minute. Gives better content when he isn't forced to compact it too much. I think two minutes is just fine

Nonsense! Obligatory statements are completely unnecessary. I guess this post was mostly a joke, but I'm must hoping no one believes they have to conform. That's what Ralph Nader's all about...go Nader!!

Speak the truth, and you'll live forever. :D

You sir, are the best part of my morning.

There's an ad for a cell phone service that touts a rebate of several hundred dollars (What does their service cost!? But I digress) and they ask people what they'd spend it on. Most say a night out, or toys. One lady says "groceries". Now HER I feel SORRY for, and I would give her the money! Not the spoiled ones ;)

I agree wtih Saffron333- your vids are ones I pass on to other people. See, that makes ME look intelligent for having intellectual friends such as you. And when I say friends, of course I mean people I've never met but feel empathy with. (enjoy my bad grammar) :)
Sure, the government could save the money instead of giving it back to us, but what then of the economy? If we, as Americans, continue down this road of saving and not spending, it will increase our chances of a recession.
The economy is so dynamic that we very well may need another "shot in the arm" 10 years later. There's nothing wrong with it. If the economy falls, the government will be in more of a bind than it is now with it's current deficit.

Continue down what road of saving and not spending? I know very few people personally in the middle class who have more in savings than they do in debt.
I am not saying that these shots in the arm are completely wrong. I'm saying that they are short term remedies for a long term problem.

I don't claim to know the answer, but I'm pretty sure that the path we are on right now is not it. Our economy is set up to be reliant on growth without sustainability. That seems to be a recipe for recession and economic disaster.
Consumer spending is only a fraction of the problem. I know that. Perhaps the government should start paying down its debt as well?
