Summer 2008 and an EWS Class 37 visits the scenic coastal Scarborough-Whitby branch line - courtesy Microsoft Train Simulator.

Best viewed in HD - the original video is 1280x720p 30fps.

We join the loco near Seamer, and see it pass Seamer station, the approaches to Scarborough station, and then take the tunnel to the Whitby branch. The video shows the loco passing some of the stations, shows some of the fantastic coastal scenery, and finally shows the descent into Whitby where the loco is serenaded by seagulls.

The route is The Yorkshire Coast Route and was obtained via www.uktrainsim.com

Sadly in the real world the branch closed in 1965, although the Esk Valley route into Whitby remains, as does the Grosmont-Pickering branch (also part of the same MSTS route) as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, albeit truncated at Pickering.

  • nice one ! , lol am i right in saying the horn doesnt really match the reain xD

  • Doesn't really match the what? I don't understand.

  • the train sorry not the reain :P the horn isnt the right sound at least i dont think so anyway

  • @scottishrailfan123 Yes I think you are right, listening to a few class 37 horns on YT. I did rather lean on the horn button a bit (American style); it should have been a quick parp.

This horn consistently says "look at my big red engine" or "get off the track before my big red engine flattens you".

To be fair, I did not create the route, engine or sound effect!

  • Ok i've got some add-ons for example the class 47 freight activity and the city of truro engine but how on earth are you supposed to add them to your train simulator and there all in zipped folders/files if this helps.

Thanks in advance and thank you for your help so far.

    Andy

  • There are editors built into MSTS - I've never bothered to properly learn them, but Mr Google will I'm sure direct you to one of the many folks that have.

I would unzip everything (or copy the contents of your compressed folders into plain folders) before you start - MSTS may not be able to read compressed folders.

  • It would not be completely impossible to reopen this line...even taking the Sainsbury's near Falsgrave Tunnel into account!

    Search terms:

Go Ryedale light rail google earth community

where you can download a KMZ for Google Earth showing how the alignment could be used and obstructions diverted around.

It would mean a much better service compared to what the route originally had, and have a role as the principal (sustainable) transport between Scarborough and Whitby once crude oil for motor v

  • @IvanMorgan1966 It's a shame that they got rid of the Scarborough to whitby line and the 37 sounds like an american horn

  • impressive

  • Is that on the CP line or the CN line?

  • oh no this isnt your fault ! the person who created the engine has lazily substituted the real class 37 horn for the one of the american dash-9 included with msts

its a very nice vid you got there man !

  • Hah...now you've got me.

The link is on another pc elsewhere so I cant immediately supply it but I am sure that if you access the Trainz database you will be able to find it using an appropriate search key. (That's how I came across it).
