The brutal mutilation of debeaking baby chicks can and must be stopped. This excruciating operation whereby the beak is melted away by being pressed against a red hot blade, is inflicted on 22.8 million chicks in South Africa every year to fit them for a life of laying eggs in a battery cage.

  • @bandgeekanimallover I don't know much about poultry, but that's what I figured. It kind of reminds me of circumcision--I'm sure it hurts, but it will heal.

That being said, I am not in favor of mutilating any creature, even humans. I understand why they do this to the chicks, but I do not support it.

  • They do this so the chickens do not EAT each other they're not doing it just to be evil. Also it only hurts for like a second kinda like taking a band-aid off.

  • this is done in every hatchery in the us / how i know --- i do it every day and i was told it is done so the chicks don't spread the feed everywhere / in 5 months there dinner anyway / yes i believe in PETA (people eating tasty animals)

  • why do they debak baby chickens?oh right hey everyone never eat hotwing again why you think that they so small?

  • @pleasereadabook True, true.

  • @NottheFacePlease

It isn't necessary because eating meat isn't necessary. We are creating a situation that they never face in nature (that sort of forced proximity).

  • Please don't use hypothetical scenarios, it does little to persuade others to change they're opinion.

Although it doesn't seem right, since they do it to prevent other chickens from pecking each other(to death), it appears to be a necessary evil.

  • well thats not the point. I lose my leg ill carry on with life as well. Doesnt mean it should happen asshole.

  • I love your response, we need more people in the world like you :)

  • I can swim a 50 in about 24 seconds, I can bench (almost...)200, and I can finish two miles in about 16 minutes.

I've never eaten meat, or eggs and I'm planning on never touching dairy again.

Your rationale is flawed. There is no need to consume animal products, so there is no need to be somewhat barbarous to prevent larger barbarianism.
