The ceremony is said to bring in contact with the gods of the jungle and place you in the corrent path in life. I had heard of stories of drug addicts taking part and never touching their addiction again.
However to be privileged to partake in such ceremonies one must be considered part of the respective tribe or have spend a considerable time with the individuals. Most shamans will not grant such an experience to tourists or westerners.

This cleansing is the first step in a long ceremony (if they went through with the ayahuasca part) in which they experience out of body moments which make your lifes quest and ambition much clearer. To experience the full ayahuasca ceremont one must be truly privileged to be part of it let alone be in the right country.

@BZerp : you are right, we went thru whole ceremony, couple of times in the period of the 10 days which we were staying with the familly, we were blessed that we met such a kind and powerful shaman who guided us in the world of the spirits...

Every time I see this video I can't help but think just how cold that water would be, even in the jungle, so I guess watching the ritual is in fact a lot more relaxing than taking part in it...

Yea it does look peaceful and relaxing. I wonder what exactly it is he is doing though. I mean exactly. I see these on youtube I'd love a detailed explanation. Is he praying for? Evil spirits to leave. The bad juju/vibes to leave. What?
