  • Wow that is absolutely gorgeous.

We've been planting dill, parsley, and fennel out in our garden this summer and we have nearly 20-30 or so Black Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillars all over the place. I am just afraid that they are going to get eaten up, but they truly are really beautiful butterflies.

  • @Angelgurl1455

You planted all their favorite foods!! They do like Cilantro but it is last choice. In some parts of the country they will eat on Lemon Balm but not here. Those caterpillars will eat continously until there is no more food. They eat day and night. I have raised 10-15 so far this year. I ran out of food for them!!

  • That's a nice aquarium setup you got there. I love the Black Swallowtail, outstanding coloration. Nice video!

Thank you, I have used this setup for several years but for some reason this year I have had trouble with it. We have had so much rain here in Kansas that it has gotten wet inside a couple of times and I had both caterpillars and cocoons, so it was hard to clean.

  • Isn't polyxenes a cool bug to raise? Looks like you had a great project going there. Keep up the good work! :D

  • 2009, I am capturing the caterpillars this year. Last year, the cuckoo birds ate them.

  • Cool! Be sure and post if you do a vid :-)

  • I don't think that would be possible. I am sorry. Maybe you can find some caterpillars on plants there.

    Thank you for commenting.

  • I found a black swallowtail butterfly 2 days ago which is unable to fly. I have it in a shoe box & put a little organic soil, a plant and a cap full of water with a little honey, which I saw it drink. I don't know what to do, should I put it outside or leave it in the shoebox?
