@MrTommyRico Eh two years ago I was a very different person. Still though I think people should be courteous of others anywhere you go. That includes being as quiet as you can in a hotel, and accepting "Sorry I don't smoke" as an answer without calling someone a pussy. Smoking has cahnged a lot in the last couple years over there.

Smoking is seen as relaxing. Chinese life is very structured, so people like to rebel! Lots of preasure in the cities. Air can be bad also in the cities! Hey, China is not Europe or America, so "when in Rome" Yes noise at night is normal, many people come from villages and dont understand noise issues or even personal space! That is China! Most of the issues come from villagers, they just don't know city life, takes time to change and China IS changing! Give China 10 more years & you will see!

dont worry about it, maybe you'll get used to the strange yet offensive honesty that a lot of mainlanders seem to have, they don't dress themselves up or act phony or fake, either you like them or you don't.

I value your advice but I have been here for nearly two years, will prolly be close 2 4 when I leave, I dunno if I agree with you about mainlanders but there are a few good ones here and there. I have also noticed a lot more young people don;t smoke. But I did notice a 10 year old puffin away on a hong shan the other day.

i just heard on NPR with david sidaris on this american life show. david were talkin about pooping in department stores. like the gap or in the elevator. its very common in the US. mostly kids. the homeless are the crazys. they poop on themselfs and smear it on the wall. my wife work in old navy. she told me this. ya . people can be pretty sick.
