@Amostardancer I truly have no idea why they do it. But they do it. It has absolutely no benefit as the rotational element of single sawing is applicable on both hard and soft wood. To be frank, the folk that saw beneath their shoulder are much better than the ones that saw above their shoulder. Moreover, there are more handicap or novice competitors who compete in Oz - which may explain it.
