While I applaud any way to reduce the homeless pet population, my concern is whether this procedure offers the benefit of reduced testicular cancer as traditional neutering does.

For an intact dog, the chances of having a metastised testicular tumor is less than 1%. That said, cryptorchids and Maltese dogs have much higher testicular cancer rates. To get research references and exact statistics, you can look up the testicular cancer section in this study:

While spermatogenesis stops within 3-4 days, there are sperm that remain in the epididymis and vas deferens for up to 30 days. The dog is observed to be permanently sterile after 30 days.

    Honest question here.

Does the injection merely kill semen and the creation of such or does it affect testerone in general?

If only the 1st has this been considered in humans versus vasectomy?

    If not... why?

Indeed, our inventor Dr Wang is an MD not VMD--hence the discovery of this formula that stops spermatogenesis without destroying the endocrine function. Unfortunately, libido goes down--so human appication is out :-).. Testosterone was observed to go down 41-52% in 30 days as spermatogenesis stops. When testosterone needed to mature sperm is not needed, the feedback loop through LH hormone induces the Leydig Cells in the testicle to produce less.

Does this work and what kind of effect is the chemicals going to have on the dog in the future. I know neutering comes with certain future risks.

Zinc Gluconate is FDA approved with an FDA trial efficacy rate of 99.6%--about the same as a perfectly taken pill. The Zinc solution is observed to be metabolized by the body within 48-72 hours. Long term effects would be more related to the spermatogenesis being stopped and the resultant reduction in testosterone needed by the body by 41-52%. Read our FAQ page for side effects and adverse reactions if the procedure is not done right.

    Jaymz,

Castrated or zinc neutered, a dog is not immediately sterile. It takes 60 days for a dog to become sterile due to active sperm in the male repro tract which can live for weeks after both procedures. FDA says effectiveness of zinc neutering is 99.6% and permanent. Dispensed client instructions advise on keeping males separate from females for 60 days. In your dog's case, conception occurred earlier.

I had two dogs treated with zinc. One it worked. The other got my female pregnant 2 months later. Its a scam and waste of money well its 50/50 but you wont know til you get 10 puppies 5 months after you pay for this expensive hoax from these quacks that flunked out of med school so became vets

Please, enough with the testicular cancer concern, I have had intact dogs of different races all of my life, since I was a kid and all of them died of old age.

I think this might be a good alternative for the men out there who don't like to see the male neutered....they seem to take it personally and that their dogs will miss those testicles. If this would help them make their dogs unable to breed it would be helpful. I'm also interested to see long term affects of this procedure. Just because it's non invasive doesn't mean it can't cause a problem later.

will it calm a dog down to or does it just make the dog infertile?

OMG, you must be the most ignorant person on the planet. I do volunteer work for an animal rescue group that helps get dogs/cats out of a county Pound because of stupid people like you. Most animals there are a result of overpopulation because people like you think it's OK to add to the problem. 4 Million animals are euthanized in the U.S. every year because of overpopulation, which could be remedied by spay/neuter. Geez, I deal with a-holes like you everyday and it gets really tiresome!

The whole point of this argument is that you said two things that are really, really, really, really wrong.

First, that people who want to control dog and cat overpopulation are going to make dogs and cats extinct. WRONG, and potentially very harmful to society and to dogs and cats, if other people believe you.

Second, that wolves are domesticated. Wrong again.

I still challenge you to spend two hours visiting a shelter. Dare ya.

What you said was that you let your cats have kittens. If that's true, then YES, you are responsible for pet overpopulation.

    Second, I"m not a man.

Third, I work with four rescue groups for almost nothing in order to help homeless animals. That's why I am so adamant about spaying and neutering.YOU don't see all the dying animals. I do.

You are so angry about me not thinking you're a great lover of animals, you can't see the truth.

When your cats have babies and you find homes for them, that's that many fewer homes for kittens in shelters. People like YOU are directly responsible for kittens dying in shelters because there are not enough homes. GO TO A SHELTER AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.

"That's the point of internet anonymity?" What's the question mark for? So you can call me an idiot and not ever have to answer for it in real life? Boy, that's something to be proud of!

    1) I'm a veterinarian who has been doing this procedure for about a year. Your comment about extinction was just too ridiculous to let pass.

    2) The whole point is to be brave enough to say things when your name DOES show. Any fool can spout off anonymously. I never post anything I won't take responsibility for.

    3) Needs no response

    4) Because it's people like you who cause pet overpopulation and leave people like me to deal with the consequences of your irresponsibility.
