@strafrag1 Well they had major problems right from the start of deregulation. From having to deal with NY Air and People Express, to the creation of USAir. Also Delta merging with Western giving them true nation wide coverage further handicapping Eastern. They had high costs, shorter segments than their other major competitors, and made a HUGE investment in new fuel efficient aircraft while fuel prices plummeted. Eastern also was never known for "service" like TWA and United.
