... for instance, if a student is planning on a career in medicine, the focus should be more science based. If they are planning on a literature or english based career, then focus on english supplemented with some humanities.
the "one size fits all" style of schooling really doesn't work in favor of higher education.
I actually had to study one of my language subjects in high school by correspondence and I am glad I did because now in University I have those independent learning skills.

the system of funding in Aus is ridiculous.
by exploiting the system, private funded schools actually receive $4 for every $1 going to public schools from the government.
we need to start teaching higher learning and critical thought at an earlier age, currently this is only taught from the last 2 years of high school onwards.
If your educating the children by rote learning they will be just another part in the machine.
the learning needs to be tailored to the student...

I agree with what you're saying regarding curriculum, but not accepting government funds is KEY. If you accept their funding, you accept their paradigm, which is already a demonstrated failure in regards to education.
I will always contend that it has met every goal it's implementers intended it to.

good topic.
i like public schools and think we should have at least triple the number of public schools we have, with a computer at every desk.
public schools at the early level should focus primarily on reading, writing, arithmetic and basic physics with conceptualization and critical thinking as the method instead of rote learning. when the 3 "R"s and basic physics are mastered students should be given the choice as an elective to study any humanities or science subjects they desire.

For example my creationist relatives MUST teach science and evolution theory. Now they are allowed to spin it as they wish, ie, "This is a theory, look at it as that, we believe otherwise but most people do accept and follow these theories." The kids then know how to answer the test questions, while their parents are free to tell them whatever they believe behind the scenes.

Better to teach them the things they need to know to meet government standards, and pass qualifying tests for University and employment, Then Also give them the extra, added knowledge. The government cannot prevent you from teaching certain subjects that are not on the curriculum they can only say what you must include.

There is a huge problem with saying: No government funding/government standards. The issue being that only certain education standards are accepted in Universities, colleges and for many careers such further education is required, giving kids an education, regardless of its superiority, that is not accepted by the main stream ultimately limits and stunts them.

Nope, not vegan. While I do lean towards consuming a lot of vegetables and grains in my diet, I do eat meat as well.
