The ad says that "Now anyone can play the ukulele without lessons or practice!" But this little gadget takes a while to get the hang of if you're used to fingering chords the "old-fashioned" way. And with a repertoire of only six chords, it's small wonder that the Islander Chord Master never caught on in a big way. It does seem to work (sort of) for the song "Amazing Grace", which is, ironically, the first song I ever learned on the uke. Don't really like the song much, but anyway, it's easy to play...especially with an "automatic ukulele"!
Ha! It reminds me of an 8-track player. Ka-CHUNK! G7!!!

Yeah!, What ever happened to 8-tracks? I had a "quadraphonic" 8-track player once...you had to wedge a book of paper matches alongside the tape cartridge to get it to stop making funny noises. Come to think of it, what ever happened to paper matches?

Somebody should make a museum of inventions that didn't quite make it. It would be funny!

That's an interesting contraption. Seems like it would ultimately slow down the learning process, however.

I think the idea was for this contraption to REPLACE the learning process. Unfortunately, while playing ukulele is relatively easy, it apparently cannot be done by a machine. So I guess we'll have to practice, after all!
