This was based on Cocoon-Mania in the eighties. Remember Cocoon? John Cusak played the videotape of it for the senior citizens in "Say Anything." Cocoon=Old People Cutting Loose. But then they got hooked on the Extra Terrestrial Meth, and then they killed one of the cute aliens trying to crack open a meth egg in the pool...

Initially, I thought the same thing. But I also think that Steven Spielberg's segment in The Twilight Zone movie has some influence as well.

Ooooh good call. you are sharp. That really jogged my memory. Speilberg took that eerie melancholy and ran with it in Amazing Stories for a little while.
