  • "I have always been a strong believer in the power of the free market."

    Obama lies again.

  • Obama works for the unions. Look what he has done for them all along. It is time for the Unions to retire themselves and save industry a ton of money. Maybe America could actually produce more without the greedy group.

  • @JTPxxx Yet China is the socialist country Obama and the Unions are trying to force the United States to become.

  • how do you just lie right to peoples face's? In one sentence say we are promoting free trade and then follow it up by saying we imposed a tariff. and then end it by saying we did this to promote an open trading system. Either he is so arrogent he feels he can tell america what ever he wants or he is just extremely dumb.

  • @cavepilot Free market for politicians is one where they're free to pick and choose the parts of the market that they like.

  • Taxing imports encourages free trade? I'm not getting it, needs some clarification.

  • "enforcing trade agreements is part and parcel of maintaining the free trade system"

    wat

  • Actually the Chinese has no choice but to buy our Treasury bond. So I am not too worry about the Chinese trying to dump Treasury bonds. They have tried it in 2010 already and they have failed. "free trade" is not what we want... "fair trade" is. China is ripping off America. The way I see is, China is peddling "economic cracks" with cheap / bad products into US market. The more we buy from "made in china", the more we destroy our own economy. Don't buy "made in china".

  • @1349793 I'm sorry, can you name a country that doesn't currently practice any interventionist policies

  • Exports would increase if they would stop trying to make 1000% profits on everything they sell. At lease if they shrunk their margins of profit a little they could justify paying such moral-less wages. I cant even begin to imagine what American unions have done for the lives of American families over the last 50 years. Without unions FAMILIES GO WITHOUT. NEWSFLASH, it takes a decent wage to pay for weddings school dentist vacation doctor sports classtrips. Unions are all we have left.

  • "U.S. exports to China would increase if the Obama administration were to insist upon balanced trade, as permitted by a special WTO rule for trade deficit countries. He could impose an across-the-board tariff on all Chinese goods whose rate would be kept proportional to the U.S.-China trade deficit. The Chinese government would then take down its many, many barriers to U.S. products." the author: Howard Richman

  • If the US was able to survive without trading with China back then and still it can do it now.
