dry-needling and acupuncture ARE completely different.. yes, they both use needles, but as far as the philosophy goes, worlds apart. I studied an acupuncture degree and studied dry-needling, they are both used for different reasons... do not let fear of others 'stepping on your professional toes' make you bitter.. In the end, the pharmaceutical organisations and medical associations run healthcare.. we can all work together, all share, all learn from one another.

Acupuncturists train for four years, and earn a masters degree in this. We are required to have this training to needle for good reason. Physical therapists and chiropractors have plenty of modalties with their own professions. We are also required to obtain "clean needle technique" certification.

This is really good treatment, I had before in Thailand Bumrungrad International Hospital. I need dry needling , again. I want it. Unfortunately, I can't find this kind of doctor here in USA. Why???

it can not be acupuncture without a traditional diagnosis. whats happening with the 5 elements? the pt is doing Eurocentric western physical medicine

thankyou very much!!

Dear Acudoctor. iF you really are a Dr, TCM you would have noticed the precise location of the insertion. If you did, you would have noted that the practitioler was needling the JIA JI on the lower thoracic area which is at least one cun deep and perpendicular with zero risk of pneumothorax. The double standard here is laughable lecturing on how and physio or massage therapist (who commonly are better trained on anatomy) shouldn't be alloowed to utilize a strictly musculo-skeletal approach.

While I agree that it was a poor choice to use a long needle, it did not appear she was using the full length. Secondly, you can't say it acupuncture, just because they are using an acupuncture needle. Just because i use a hammer from time to time doesn't make me a carpenter

This is not acupuncture. Do your homework and read about myofascial pain first! When used by a well trained professional it is one of the best tools for myofascial pain there.

I'm sorry to disagree but THAT IS ACUPUNCTURE on the video and it should be someone licensed and trained to do acupuncture performing the treatment..
1.Dry needling is not just about Trigger Points release... new research explained dry needling can work on both CNS and PNS level.
2.Dry needling is just one of many tools a physio uses. Being a PT, I did a 6 day course and I claim myself a dry needling practitioner.
3. In practice, dry needling heavily borrowed TCM acupunture techniques.
4. In research, TCM theory guides dry needling researchers to find evidence to 'back up' TCM theories. So, DN is still in its 'Dark Age'-dont get 2 proud
