@WhiteTiger333 @Rain9959 I believe they also had her in mind for chief engineer for Voyager, but again it didn't work out.

@Rain9959 Ah, thanks for the backstory. Someday, I'll need to get ahold of TNG and watch it through. I only had a scattered viewing of that and Voyager, so I missed a lot of connections between characters and storylines.

:) That reminds me, I need to get cracking on DS9 season 5. Sadly, TNG is starting to look a tad dated. It's the mannerisms of some of the characters, not Guynan. I guess we humans really do change.

@WhiteTiger333 - Yes, it is dated, but there about a couple of dozen classic episodes that impact on the storylines - eg. Ensign Ro character above was introduced late in TNG, destined to spin-off to become the DS9 bajoran woman lead, but she was replaced by Major Kira in DS9 :)

@Rain9959 Oh, how interesting. I guess I can see the personality resemblance, but how would she have ended up on Bajor during the occupation if she was already a Starfleet officer? Or did you mean the actor was meant to spin-off, not the character?

@WhiteTiger333 - Ensign Ro grew up in the refugee camps - the Occupation had gone on for 40 years already and was still going at the time of TNG. She joined Starfleet to get away, but by the time she joins Enterprise, she has already been courtmartialled and was in military prison. Her first episode above, is for a single mission for the federation negotiating with Bajoran terrorists that she knows, and so she was sent to the Enterprise and Picard ordered to work with her.

@Rain9959 For her, it was a way for her to get out of her Starfleet, or Federation prison sentence. Becomes part of Enterprise crew for a season or so, but in later episode Ensign Ro goes AWOL and leaves Starfleet, says a big "sorry" to Picard, and joins the Bajoran Resistance. She was supposed to show up a year later after the Occupation on DS9.
But her contract fell through, and Star Trek had to recast and rewrite the character, as Kira, with a slightly different history.
