I got the dog from the pound... he is a lab/pit mix. Below is how you do some of the tricks. He was 7 months at the time i recorded this.

GO AROUND: First you guide the dog around with the treat. Eventually he does it without the guidance. This is a good command if your dog ever gets his leash wrapped around a pole.

LIGHTS TRICK: The turning off the lights is actually the "touch" command. We found a red piece of paper and put it on the floor and had him put his paws on it and said "Touch" and then praise him. Then we placed the paper against the wall about a foot up and rweepeated. Then we started taping the paper to the wall and sending him over to touch it. Eventually you replace the light switch for the paper. We actually have him turn off the lights for us when we want to watch a movie! :)

"BANG" PLAY DEAD: Have him lay down. Then say "bang" (with corrisponding hand command) and push him over. Eventually he starts to anticipate the push and he'll roll over by himself. When he does it by himself then you really praise him.

BARK: Find something that makes him bark... teach him the trick when he's in a barking mood. Hold up the item, or play the sound or whatever that makes him bark... do this while also showing him the bark command (ours is our hand open and close). To make him "count" just keep giving him the bark command until he has reached the correct number. **Video is not edited...the 2nd time he moved his mouth but nothing came out - ha!**

WAIVE GOODBYE: This trick is basically "shake-a-paw" . When you teach your dog the shake-a-paw trick,, waive your hand simultaneously... he will then learn to associate raising his paw, when you waive your hand.

  • the dog is a lab / pit mix i got from the pound. To learn how to do the tricks, see the video description beside.

  • Wow i love your dog! Can you give me a few tips on how to get a dog to play dead and turn of a light. I would be very grateful! Loving the vid!

  • They're both easy. To play dead, have him lay down. Then say "bang" (with hand command) and push him over. Eventually he starts to anticipate the push and he'll roll over by himself. When he does it by himself then you really praise him.

  • Thanks so much for your help. I have 2 dalmatians so i'll be able to try with both of them haha. I'll let you know how i get on. Also how long did it take your dog to learn this?

  • Every dog is different. It will probably take about 1 week to learn and 2-3 weeks to master. Post a video response once they've done it - i'd like to see.

  • Good job on the training! I have a one yr old rednose pit. Smart dogs! Nugget (my dog) has learned just about everything I have attempted to teach, our next hurdle is play dead :) thanks for ur help!

  • @MrXqlusivz I dont think he cares for your opinion.

  • ur dog is crap and it barked three times n u sound dubbed the second one out. also when he is playing dead he moves. U SUCK

  • wow thats amazing my dog is so spoiled he would never do any of that

  • How do you do the light switch, I take my dog for walks and trying to get him to push the walk button. I might be in a wheel chair sometime per the dr. So I have been training him. He learned roll over in one day. hes a queenlund heeler, border mix. He also hels me with grand daughter, brings me diapers, bottles and also brings telephone and remotes. I would like to get this down with the lights. if he learns that then he will learn the button for cross walks.

  • I have a 4month yr old puppy girl pit bull, she can do the basic tricks, sit, lay, crawl, left and right pawl handshakes and wanna teach her to roll over, play dead, and she is starting to learn to come when she is called, kinda a stubborn dog but i purchased a clicker that i guess helps with dog training and its been working so, but my question is, is rolling over and playing dead too much for a 4month year old puppy to handle?

  • Lol i love the light switch trick, im with you on the having my dog turn the lights off for me, especially after reading right before bed time. lol.

  • You are doing a great job with your rescued dog. It is quite amazing how much dogs are capable of learning.
