His feathery, bright, and crisp touch--never a wrong note!--are rivaled only by Teddy Wilson and Bill Evans. Oscar Peterson spoke of revering and emulating two pianists: Tatum and Cole. Nat Cole's commercial success, artistry, his regal grace, poise, and sense of style, made him a huge cultural hero of Aframerica--and an unsung figure of the civil rights movement.
