I like your idea but in my opinion I think it ties in with the song about how when she was younger she had this friend who was sort of like a "partner in crime" who suddenly decided you know what fuck this I want to grow up but the singer couldn't take the idea that her friend would turn their back on her and asks them to "pick up the phone" saying that they're taking things way to seriously and they could have tons of fun but they aren't convinced so she continues being rebellious on her own
