Wo bleibt denn hier das Do?Der Geist?
@jaquesgrobler2 haha very true. Sure anyone can learn the moves in 6 months. I bet if all I did all day for six months was study a book by Stephen Hawking I could recite it back to you word for word, that doesn't make me a quantum physicist....... It's not about learning how to physically perform moves. I feel bad for anyone paying money to "chronomaestro"......to teach them anything related to any martial art.
So just because I said the Kukkiwon forms are too simple, it means I am dissing TKD? What kind of logic is that? Where did I say these forms are bad or not worthy to learn????? This is just a mere comparison between the ITF and Kukkiwon forms in MY OWN opinion and based on MY OWN experience. What is wrong with that?
@chronomaestro How old are you? I'm sorry Sunbae but especially a person like you, a 5th dan, trainer and basically a master, should be able to understand the true meaning of TaeKwonDo. I personally believe that TaeKwonDo is more the just Martial Arts. TKD opens up a whole new world for one. It teaches you discipline, and another way of life. It changes yourw ay of thinking and helps you believe in the greater good. Keumgang isn't an easy pattern. If you think they're easy, your poomsae isnt rit
In Kukkiwon taekwondo, the advancement requirements for advanced dan gradings are more about what you have done with your life, what you have done to make the art form better and advance it in the world. to go from 6th dan to 7th dan, part of the requirements are to demonstrate what you have done to help keep taekwondo alive and well as a growing martial art and sport. Maybe the poomse look simple, but if your technique isn't absolutely flawless, you won't advance. And the ki aspect is crucial.
Agreed with jayseon777. This form is just too simplistic for a 6th dan. Taekwondo is NOT Tai Chi so the comparison with Tai Chi is ridiculous. And not just this form but all the forms starting from Keumgang up to Ilyeo are just too simple for black belt, let alone master level. It took me 20 years to learn from Chon-Ji to Tong-Il. To learn Taeguk-1 through Ilyeo, it took me a mere 6 mo. I hold 5th Dan TKD and have been training/teaching for 25 years.
the reason is looks simple is because the higher you get in Taekwondo, the more "ki" you are learning to use thus creating harmony with the cosmos. even the basic forms Tae Geuk are the equivalent to "Tai Chi" in Chinese language. it isn't beyond comprehension that Ilyo (the highest form) meaning "oneness" direclty relates to the cultural spirituality of Korean philosophy dealing with Samunmyeong (man, heaven, earth) principles. I am curious what rank Jayseon777 holds in TKD? can you tell us?

This form is pretty simple for a 6th dan form. Not a bad form just more simplified.
