Race to Mars is a fantastic new production by Discovery Channel Canada. It's as scientifically-accurate vision of what a human mission to Mars will look like as they could make.

  • they spin the ship in order to generate what seems like gravity. It flies through space rotating like it's a propeller, and that creates artificial gravity at the ends of the space-craft. When they have to fire engines and manoever, they spin down (and begin floating in zero/micro-gravity)

  • @Michaelcarl my second name is Armstrong, does that make me a good astronaut?

  • In real life though they spin satellites and shit to make them more stable in their orientation. So don't go thinking they spin satellites when launching them because they need to simulate gravity, because that's not it. o_O

  • "Look at all that God has made" - please, not another Genesis reading crap. It's a MANNED mission to Mars, as in the first HUMANS on the planet, not the first Christians. Religion is a personal thing, keep it to yourself.

  • @ktmo123 you dont post a spoiler in the trailer video. dickhead.

  • when is it released

  • 0:59 he appears in NFS Most Wanted as Toru Sato!!!

  • actually, in order to simulate gravity with centrifugal force, the diameter of the rotating living quarters would have to be at least a kilometre as the human inner ear is so sensitive that if it's less - as shown in this series -the human body perceives it as spinning instead of normal gravitational weight. ie spinning a larger wheel slower does the trick as opposed to spinning a smaller wheel faster.

  • My mistake, I mistook the title for an actual documentary on an expedition that actually happened.

The problem with that plan is that the floors have to be circular like in 2001, or else you don't have even distribution.

  • simple physics. take a bucket and fill it with water, then grab it in one hand and rotate around your axis. if you spin it hard enough, the water will just stick to the bottom and wont spill. same with the spacecraft

  • ya, that is strange
