The very popular nocturne Le Lac de Côme (Lake Como) was Galos's 6th Nocturne (see my performance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTVUsQYL1B0). This piece - 'Bells in the Evening' is its successor.
The composer remains a mystery. I had thought he/she was Italian, but having seen discussions on the subject on a piano forum, I think that the author - often spelt as 'Galas' - was French, and quite possibly female, and had died (or given up writing) by 1924. One Belgian bibliographic catalogue (Journal de l'imprimerie et de la librairie en Belgique' by Charles Hen, published 1867) identifies the composer as 'Mme Theodore Galos' and lists the 2nd Nocturne. Galos's pieces are composed of stock salon clichés. However,, they succeed where so much similar music has been forgotten because they lie well on the piano, have pleasant melodies, and, above all, they are well-proportioned and concise..

I like mysteries! After reading your info., I guess the Belgian bibliographic catalogue is telling the truth (but not solving it). Charming piece, beautiful playing.
