South Rampart Street Parade Dutch Swing College 1988
Peter Schilperoort and his Dutch Swing College Band play "South Rampart Street Parade" during a concert recorded for the ZDF Broadcast Company in Germany.
I have played the tune, of course heard it from many bands through the years including the original version of Bob Crosby's Bob Cats in the late thirties or so, but to me there is no compairison. These Dutch musicians do the smoothest version I ever witnessed.
Sytze van Duin cnt, Bert Boeren tbn, Peter Schilperoort bar.sax, Bob Kaper clt, Fred McMurray, pno, Henk Bosch van Drakestein bs, and Huub Janssen ds.
Today in 2007 unfortunately the band in this combination doesn't exist any more but continue to be successful in a different combination. After Peter's death in 1991 reedman Bob Kaper became leader and Bert de Kort, who was the band's cornettist from 1966 until about 1979 came back in the band.
Long way to go to outperform your predecessors.

Several of the members of this band actually had been in New Orleans. Schilperoort certainly did. But then another question, how many of the original Bob Crosby Orchestra, who first played the piece and whose members composed it, had actually been there? They worked in NYC and Los Angeles....
In that light, what did Billy Holiday in the movie New Orleans??? But on the other hand, let's simply be gratefull that so much nice music is recorded and now available for everyone on youtube!

It doesn't matter where they're from. I think that this is the best version of SRSP I've heard on YT. Listen to that trombone wail in the beginning. I also think a clarinet is a must in Dixieland Jazz....no offense to the bagpipes. Pete Fountain would be proud of this performance. Nice drumming and cornet work too. Kudos to all.

Anyone heard the Scots Guards (pipe & drum band) version? I wore my record out.

You are absolutely right. it is a tenor. Lester, I am glad you noticed it, after 11.000 folks had watched it.

Peter is playing tenor, not baritone, saxophone. Beautiful playing.

So odd to see the name South Rampart in a Dutch jazz band who may never have been to Rampart Street. :)
No offense of course, the Europeans appropriate New Orleans music more than most Americans.
