Very shocking that Tikkanen never won a Selke Trophy for the best defensive forward in hockey. I've often thought he was the best two-way forward in hockey in the late 80s and early 90s, but he never received the credit he deserved.

Indeed, he was an even better form of protection for Gretzky and Kurri then Semenko was. He had the skill and speed to hold his own end as the left winger, as an added bonus. His constant yapping and agitation and getting under the skin of the opposition meant that all the heat went on him, leaving Gretzky and Kurri free to go to work.
