@thegreatNEb lol

@thegreatNEb - yeah, but when you actually think about how many times she must have sung this song....then a change is as good as a rest man.
-
@emsweet11 That's true also.
-
@tomthefunky Yeah, too bad. It might have given them steadier careers once Motown left Detroit. And Aretha would have had a real band to back her up. ;o)
-
@emsweet11 You're right, but they were essentially a studio band.
-
@tomthefunky The Funk Brothers could do it all.
-
Her problem was that she sang such a diverse amount of styles of music in her shows, she could never find a band who could play the funky low-down stuff like the Muscle Shoals guys or the New York session aces she recorded her studio albums with. She'd get orchestra musicians who didn't really have a solid grasp of the stuff she was famous for. But those soul musicians she recorded with couldn't play the pop standards as well as the orchestras could. It was a catch-22 she found herself in.
-
This is pretty much the tempo it was when it first came out in 1971 - then they 'funked' it up for the mid 70s. She sang it better at that pace six years earlier however.
