Ohio's Licking County lost 1600 jobs in 2008
In Ohio's Licking County, over two dozen companies have laid off workers or shut down in the past year, with 712 jobs lost in the last two months alone.
Firms like Holophane, Longaberger, Diebold and Owens Corning laid off more than 100 workers this year. A total of 1600 jobs have been lost in Licking County, which has a population of 145,000.
In the past two months, at least 712 Licking County workers lost their jobs. Most of the job losses were in manufacturing, but some came in the retail and government sectors.
The county's unemployment rate stood at 6.3 percent in October, but it could grow worse. Nine companies announced layoffs this month.
Amid some of the worst economic news in many years, maybe decades, some companies are doing well.
Licking Memorial Health Systems, State Farm Insurance and Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center are three examples of large entities in the area that have not been dramatically hurt by the economy.
