Sorry I didn't upload for the past two days. I've been addicted to The Hunger Games (which I got for Christmas) and haven't been able to stop reading it; I'm already on the second book and its only two days after Christmas. [ Thursday December 16th 2004 ]
Baking had always been a favourite past time of Selena's and she always loved the smell of sweet desserts baking away in the oven. She particularly loved to experiment with different recipes like a mad scientist would do in his lab. One time she made a cake that didn't have any eggs or butter and the other she made cookies with powdered sugar instead of flour.
So it became a regular thing that every Thursday at the diner, Selena would bring her homemade desserts and today it was her famous chocolate brownies. Although it had been a slow day the tray was nearly empty.
Selena was taking a break in the back room reading while Leighton was at the front counter. The front door chimed and who no other than Nick entered the diner. He quickly scanned the almost empty diner in search for Selena but couldn't see any sign of her.
He walked over to the front counter. "Um excuse me, is Selena here by any chance?" he asked politely with a small smile.
"Yeah she's on her break, hang on" Leighton threw down the cloth and walked into the back room. "Selena that guy's is here to see you," she informed her as she raised her eyebrows in an amusing manner.
"Which guy?" she asked a little confused putting down her book.
"You know. The one with the curly hair and those brown eyes you can't stop talking about" she replied with a smirk pasted across her face.
Her eyes widened in shock. "What?" she asked in a disbelief tone before she walked out of the back room and to the front counter. "Now I'm certain that you're stalking me," she said as she crossed her arms across her chest.
A chuckle escaped his lips, "Well I've been meaning to ask you something," he began as he said as he shoved his hands in his pockets, his tone suddenly changing from teasing to serious. Somehow, it made her nervous.
"What's that?" she asked warily.
He nervously licked his lips "I was wondering if maybe you would like to go out sometime, with me," he said with hope twinkling in his honey-coated orbs.
She had been taken aback by the question, she had just met him but it was obvious that there was an attraction between the two. "Um sure I'd love to" she said as she bit her bottom lip nervously.
His face lightened up, "Great how about I pick you up outside the library tomorrow around eleven o'clock?" he suggested.
"Sure, that sounds good" she smiled.
"Perfect, here's my number" he grabbed the napkin and her pen from the counter and scribbled down his digits. "I'll see you tomorrow" he smiled before he left the diner.
Selena grabbed the napkin, a small smile etched across her face as she looked down at his messy handwriting. "So what did he want?" Leighton asked excitedly.
"Leighton! Don't scare me like that" she placed a hand on her chest. "He just asked me to go out with him tomorrow" she chewed on her bottom lip.
"I knew it!" she exclaimed triumphantly, a smile spreading across her face.
"But Leighton, you know me and guys, they just don't mix, like oil and water" she pointed out.
"I know you've had some bad relationships in the past, but this time it could be different. You can't keep avoiding guys. One thing I know for sure is he's not like those jerks you've dated and I can tell you like him a lot by the way your eyes sparkle whenever he's near." She pointed out.
"Just give him a chance, you never know he may be 'the one' for you," she said as she took the last brownie from the tray before walking into the kitchen.
Could he really be the one for me, Selena thought to herself.
