2009 Animal Rescue Hero: Melinda "Lindy" Minch

For 12 years, Lindy and her yellow lab, Kendall, have been volunteers with Furry Friends, a pet-assisted-therapy group that works with Santa Clara County Childrens Shelter. Through this and a similar program, Lindy spends countless hours each month bringing children together with animals to bring a little comfort, solace and warmth into their troubled young lives.

American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter's 3rd Annual Real Heroes Breakfast on May 8, 2008 recognized acts of heroism by 9 local residents who were nominated by the public and selected by a group of community leaders because they went above and beyond the call of duty to exhibit a true act of selflessness, and their heroic acts embody the principles and ideals of the Red Cross humanitarian mission.
