I desided to try out my PIC:s with a Color LCD and bought this Nokia LCD on ebay. This is just a test program.
It was easier then I thought that it would be to communicate with the lcd. The datasheet is pretty much straight forward, you got 34 commands and all of them are really good explained in the datasheet. I have the epson controller in my LCD, there are LCD´s that uses a controller from phillip´s so keep that in mind if you dont get it to work.

  • why not use PIC16F877 or PIC16F887?

  • @billabong272 I had this one at home!

  • a question: Can this LCD use to watch video signals? I'm interested in a project which uses LCDs for video with sizes similar to this LCD or smaller.

  • Hi!

Yes, it would be possible to use this LCD as a small video LCD, but it's bad contrast on it. What I said in the video about it being slow was just with my software on the PIC,I discovered later on. It uses SPI interface to the MCU/CPU.

  • А где ты взял протокол Nokia LCD?

Where you find the protocol of Nokia LCD?

  • In the datasheet!

  • @Kdg86 what datasheet? could you brig it to us ?

  • can you also use a laptop lcd

  • @Kdg86 as for the epson controller you mentioned, is it built in the LCD panel itself or do we have to couple the terminals of the LCD to the so-called driver? I have lots of LCDs from nokia too but I'm still at starters with it... identifying the model number is another thing too..

    Thanks for your time.

  • is it possible to put a video on the microcontroler or would i have to add external storage. becasue im programing a chip that when it starts up it views a video but then is all picture it for a friend who wants his airsoft gun to count down the bullets and the video in the beginning looks like its booting up. can i add 100mb of memory to the microcontoler.

  • yup it looks like a bomb.

  • would a mircoprocessor like an arduino be able to run the LCD? Maybe make it more fuctional>?

  • He mentioned in the video where he got this...

    go search sparkfun.com

  • What LCD is this? What's the phone which has it?
