We should take organisations such as law societies, university legal research organisations, privacy and human rights organisations seriously when they warn against the complacency that the legislation will bring with it. The futility of trying to regulate technology and the dangers of starting to censor the Internet what exactly is Refused Classification and is that consistent with other media content laws? This step should not be taken lightly. The Australian Government is setting a very dangerous international precedent here. The ruling in relation to iiNet that ISPs can't be held responsible for user activities on the Internet in relation to illegal downloading will also have an effect on the legality of forcing IPSPs to filter the network.
