GHBBB - Gugge Hedrenius Big Blues Band (Sweden) in New York, june 1986. Willie Cook (lead trumpet), Rolf Ericson (trumpet solo), Thomas Driving (trumpet), Ulf Johansson Werre (trombone solo), Magnus Olsson (bass trombone), Dicken Hedrenius (trombone), Håkan Lewin (alto sax solo), Wåge Finér (alto sax), Jesper Thilo (tenor), John Högman (baryton), Jan Adefelt (bass), Gugge Hedrenius (piano), Måns Ekman (drums). Gugges Blues is written and arranged by Gugge, the following blues is a tutti chorus taken from Hank Crawford's 4-5-6.
The information mentions trumpeter Willie Cook, a native of East Chicago. Indiana but he is never seen nor is it certain that he's heard. Cook was the star trumpeter with Duke Ellington's band, why isn't he featured more in these Gugge Hedrenius Big Blues Band videos? Willie Cook was one of the great jazz trumpeters of his era. Its a shame there is'nt more visual material archiving his vibrant sound.

Hej! Yes, he was a giant. To answer your question: the reason is only a coincidence. He usually was much featured during the 15 years he was a member of the band, but obviously not too much on this concert. But you should count his great lead trumpet as a feature act - he plays it all the way! I don't know if it's a shame that there are not more videos with Willie Cook (who's guilty?). But I agree - it should be more! On my profile, you can find 9 solos by him. They help a bit, don't they?
