I love my hammie hamm. Her name is Ginger because she is the color of ginger. This is the most common syrian hamster color and is the color they are in the wild. They come in many assorted colors like piebald, calico, white, etc. Also they have short and long hair versions.

Ginger was adopted by me because someone left her at our petstore with a note on her cage. They apparently couldn't keep her at the aparment they had and didn't know what else to do. My boss was going to add her to our feeder hamster but I didnt want to. Ginger already knew the lifestyle of a pet. I was wrong to take that away from her. SO.... I now have a hamster. She is much bigger now than when I first got her. I'd say three times bigger. But she's done growing now. Hamster longevity is usually about 2-3 years and that's if you're lucky. She's not even a year old yet. She was probably 6 weeks old whenever I got her.

I'd like to reitterate: Syrian hamster are SOLITARY hamsters. They should and must be kept alone. Do not ever put syran/golden hamsters together for anything besides breeding.
