1984 South African Drivers Championship Kyalami race meeting. Close racing and one of the closest ever finishes at Kyalami. Drivers taking part included Trevor van Rooyen (Maurer MM83), Bernard Tilanus (Ralt RT4), Tony Martin (Maurer MM82/83), Wayne Taylor (Ralt RT4), John Moni (March 832) and Braam Smith (Ralt RT4). Ian Scheckter (Team Gunston March 832), at that stage on his way to his 6th and final SA Drivers Championship missed this race, while co-driving the Kreepy Krauly March 83G with Sarel van der Merwe in the IMSA Series. All cars competing in the series used the Mazda 12A rotary engines, which in racing spec provided some 300 BHP.
