Hiking along Grand Canyon south rim in winter near "The Abyss", east of the south village towards Hermit's Rest. January 2008.

It was cold and slippery, and I almost fell in. I wasn't running video at the time, but as you can see it's a long way down.

  • Neat video!!! Thanks for sharing. I know what you mean about the rim trail being slippery; I hiked from the village to Hermits Rest in January 2003, and I've never been so scared in the canyon (although to be honest I've only been around the corridor trails, Grandview, and Hermit). I remember spots where the trail was icy and pitched 30 degrees toward the canyon, and without crampons I was lucky I had trekking poles, or I probably would have gone over he edge myself.

  • Late January.
