As a muslim, I can emphatically say that in the Quran and the hadith that there are specific signs that will appear before the return of Imam Mahdi(as). None of these have even appeared yet. Muslims are not stupid people, we will see right through the deception

We don't need to be anybody special, but when we hear people talking nonsense about what they've seen on TV or read somewhere, we can casually say that we have another take on the subject. And then we can suggest they consider an alternative explanation, and so on. Just lift the "veil of deception" (as you describe it so well) up a little bit, and give people a glimpse into what's really going on.
