Killing Joke, the Long Halloween and the Death in the Family/Under the Hood storylines are essential reading too imo

This film is basically a perfect shot-to-shot adaptation of Batman Year One. It's a damn good read. You can buy it for very cheap on Amazon, it's only around £5. And that's for 4 issues. Well worth the money.

That's pretty accurate of Miller!Batman. I wouldn't suggest reading All Star Batman and Robin (I wouldn't wish that on anyone) but Linkara does a pretty good review of it on the thatguywiththeglasses site if you want to see more of 'crazy steve the impostor batman'

That must explain it. Because throughout the movie, it didn't feel like usual Batman, with his confidence, intelligence, and prowess. It felt like some dude with mental health issues dressing up as a bat.

That's because Miller's batman is kinda a psycho.

Just don't read Dark Knight Strikes Again or All Star Batman and Robin. Actually, don't read anything by Frank Miller except Year One and DKR. Ditto what DocGoblin says too. If you're looking outside the comic medium, the movie versions of all the ones Doc and I listed are good, as is Batman: The Animated Series (the original one). Personally, I like it best when Batman's working with other heroes, so I like Justice League and Young Justice too.

What Jnru3ns4n3 said. He speaks at Japanese and Chinese very well because he traveled the world to train with them. Remember that he had infinite money (practically, he had billions so just paying people to train him and flying around he'd never run out), and no real obligations, so all he did for years was find these martial artists and have them teach him. He has also been trained in other things by mentors, such as detective type work. (His teacher's observation is way better than his lol)

Batman seems much more mentally unstable in this movie...

a question for comic readers ? or someone who reads the comics! i've been wondering, i know that Batman in the comics trains himself .. but how does he train himself in martial arts ??? you can't just train yourself with nothing not even knowing anything aboutthe art and manage to become an expert !!?
