  • is this reel actually made in malaysia or made in japan??because a tackle shop owner tell this reel actually made in malaysia but exported to japan and come back to malaysia and make this reel cost double the price

  • @thefuckingman4567 japanese commercial law allow traders to do that, but AFAIK all hi-end reels still made in japan

  • sorry, i have been mis-informed, believe it or not , by a tackle dealer of

    many years trading experience

    excuse my ignorance

however could you tell me when the first Shimano left-hand multiplier was made

    for market,

-and also now, left-hand wind made for big game fishing?

  • @darkmossie633 I don't have a problem with you so to speak. i don't know the year &model exactly, but there's calcutta 101 in the mid 90's. as for big game, afaik only penn & avet make the left hand version.

  • the principles of casting and retrieving like you do with fixed-spool reel

(I REPEAT, 95% of fishermen's choice) should be EXACTLY the same, using left-hand retrieve multiplier -AND you dont have to change hands on rod after casting!

-this American right-hand retrieve multiplier con, the BIGGEST ever in fishing reel

    technology ever -must end

  • @darkmossie633 i believe this is subjective, with fixed spool, i reel with left hand. while for multiplier i cast with RH, transfer & palm to LH so winding by RH. i have both LH & RH baitcaster reels & can cast with both hands but still prefer cast & transfer method. YMMV.

you're right. it's only business for them.

  • what r u saying,, // ? ingles or spanish , or french please.

  • the 5001C was the only left-hand wind Abu made in those days

-other Abu stockists did not even stock this one, so the only choice was right hand retrieve multipliers!

    so what happens?

all the anglers of that age had no CHOICE, and bought right-hand multis, thinking "Well, this must be the right way, as there are no left-handed multipliers available"

-so, the story goes on, there was no choice, so anglers got used to this inferior system

  • hi pukau-thx for your considered replies

    -i am from uk

i am mid fifties now, but in 1973, when Abu were all the rage, i went to my local

"modern-orientated" fishing tackle shop, to look for Abu multiplier

-left hand wind of course, as that is all i knew with my fixed-spool

    reel experience

-to my amazement, they were all Abu righyt-hand retrrieve multipliers!

-apart from ONE! The Ambassadeur 5001C

and I bought i-there was no other choice though
