The two biggest differences ive seen between amateur strokes and pro strokes is that all pros completly rotate their upper body sideways with shoulder facing opponent, and they swing much earlier and come in contact with the ball further out in front of them. Most amateur level players have a "comfort" zone closer to their body because it allows them more time to gauge the ball and swing, but severely cuts down on power of shot.
that's an awesome observation. even upper level juniors, the difference is the rotation, contact on the ball, and weight transfer. we also call it hands, the ability to generate mad power
It's amazing, I only recently began to hit my forehands a lot like these women; but only because I started to mimic Federer's forehand follow through and became alarmed at how much more power I could generate with topspin to keep the ball inbounds. These women have a follow through much like him.
Now I'd say that I have maybe 2 more skills missing in my game. The Slice and The Smash...
i never noticed how much i'm upright and kind of leaning back when I hit. Watching girls is great because they're physically not much stronger than me, while the pro dudes--some of the them are just AMAZING--Monfils in person...lasers, and he's not even trying... even the qualie guys were like out of this world. the girls though really reminded me...lean forward
