A story aired on WKTV-Utica on January 15, 2010 regarding Congressman Arcuri's visit to the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown to discuss his position on safe, responsible natural gas drilling in New York State. He was invited to speak by several constituent groups working on the issue of gas drilling in Otsego County.
Recently, Arcuri has called for New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to withdraw its Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DSGEIS) as Arcuri believes that it does not go far enough to protect water resources in New York State. Arcuri previously met with several members of local constituent groups, New York Rural Water Association and was part of a rally on the steps of City Hall in New York City to discuss his views and continue to gather information on the prospect of natural gas drilling.
While Arcuri is not opposed to natural gas drilling completely, he thinks it is vitally necessary to protect the New York State water supply and feels New York State should take every precaution necessary to do so.
