Aberdeen woman Michelle Coulson was named Campaigner of the Year.
Although still affected by her brain injury sustained in a road traffic accident seven years ago, Michelle is a passionate and vocal ambassador for Headway and a committee member of the Brain Injury Grampian Group. Michelle has shared her experiences of brain injury with newly-qualified nurses at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and regularly speaks to groups of medical professionals about living with a brain injury. She is also a member of numerous brain injury forums and working groups and is helping to shape brain injury services in her area.
"As soon as you meet Michelle, you cannot fail to be impressed by her positive attitude and determination to help others," said Peter McCabe. "Her drive to help other people is truly inspirational. By bravely sharing her deeply personal experiences of brain injury with medical professionals in order to improve the care and support others receive, she has done a huge amount to raise awareness of the often hidden effects of brain injury."
Michelle was joined on stage by fellow finalists Mark Cooper from Edinburgh and Mary Read, from Lincolnshire.
