Today is the 8th September 2009. We are at the Comenius School in Mettingen. This week our school hosts the so called ‚One World Days in which many different workshops and projects take place. Our group works on the topic intercultural communication in the Internet.
There are many ways and opportunities to communicate with people from all over the world. Nowadays the most frequently used way of communication is the Internet. Emails, chat rooms, instant messenger services and forums are only some of the Internet services we use everyday to keep in contact with each other.
One medium is especially useful : The video in the Internet. We use videochats, watch the news on the Internet and laugh about funny videoclips on YouTube. Producing and publishing movies it seems like everybody can do this but does everybody really do it?
The question is : Why would I want to make or watch a movie?
Videos in the Internet is that only an alternative to TV? No the strength of the Internet lies somewhere else because here we are able to see things that are not avaliable on TV! We can learn about the everyday life of people in other countries, we can create an awareness of their problems, that no-one notices, can communicate with our friends and partners from all over the world and learn from one another (free from stereotypes and free from the one-sided perspective that is shown on TV).
And the most important is : Everyone can do it! For the last ten years computers, cameras and software were for most people too expensive Today anyone can make videos! Even in the poorer regions of the world, we find people with digitalcameras and basic computers all you need in order to produce a small video.
Today we would like to show you, how easy it is for someone to make a film! In our example we produce a shortfilm, in order to establish a communication between our school in Germany and our partner school in Brazil.
The most important aspect in this project is the text, this is because it contains all the information and motivates the listener to listen to the film.
Scene 1
The student chooses a theme and then writes a text for example he introduces himself. Here he discusses his first draft of the text with his teacher.
The text is then recorded this is the most difficult part, even though you can achieve a good result with a basic headset.
Then you collect the footage. You can do this with a basic digital photo camera with a videofunction this quality is even more than it is required for the Internet!
Audio and video are then cut and put together with a simple program until you have a short film you can send via email or publish on your own homepage.
Imagine all schools would use this easy way to communicate with their partnerschools. We could learn from each other a lot and keep in contact even over great distances between continents and oceans. Because communication is the best way to fight against prejudices and racism. Only when we know and understand each other we can make a change!
My name is Ramon. I study here because I want to go to university in Germany. I hope we could show you how easy it is to produce a film.
Wish you had the english sub in the video, would be much easier.
