There are a lot of superstitious, pro-life nuttos here in the states, most of which don't really care about the prerservation of human life. They like to inject large amounts of sensationalism into the issue, and use it to score political points. They have little to say about the wars in which we are always tangled. As long as our troops are killing large amounts of brown-colored non-christians, the thousands of Americans that die as well are perfectly acceptable to them.

i find the terms "pro-choice" and "pro-life" are really oversimplifying the issue.

You're right, of course, but they are a useful shorthand for points of view that can be refined by further discussion. So, although I am 'pro-choice', I still think that contraception is the better preliminary! Prevention better than cure in this case.

Here in Poland all the tv stations are now talking about how about ten thousand polish women go to UK to have abortions and how it should be stopped. And I am really f-ing sick of this country. Not long ago our parliament passed a bill according to which forcing people to pay respect to religious symbols in governmental buildings (be placing them there) is protecting the freedom of religion. And then there are the blasphemy laws, religion grades on school certificates, and...

Wonderful video, and made even more so by its link to George Carlin. That guy was just unstoppable. And frankly, I would have loved to have seen any dedicated theist meet Carlin in open debate. It would have been an unfair contest of wit, I think.

the idea that just because some people who claim to be pro life are uncharitable does not make the pro life idea false, that seems to be what you are saying. if i said that because some muslims are violent haters of westeners makes all Islam an evil plot i would be called a racist, but when the targets of the same idea are Christian teachings apparently that is ok.

@karablak1 i voted thumbs up because that makes Poland even more awesome. Poland was formed with catholicism at its center the country owes its survival to the Church of the Middle Ages and has traditionally been almost 100% Catholic. when religion is so important to the entire community like that all of those measures make sense. its community trying to preserve itself and its culture and heritage.

Without involving religion in the pro-life/pro-choice argument.. There is much debate as to when exactly a 'clump of cells' becomes 'human'. If the foetus is regarded as human, abortion technically becomes murder. Simple as that. So why do you think, if there is no black and white answer as to when these cells become 'human', the benefit of the doubt is given to the pro-choice argument and the potential human is allowed to be murdered?

I appreciate that you encourage people to think hard about issues, even if you have no "original" ideas. Far too many people get their first thoughts handed to them and go no further. Even without new ideas, there is a great deal of people for whom the old ideas appear new.

The important thing is to continually test and challenge even our basic premises.
