“Get up Addy!!” My sister said pulling on my ankle. I groaned and pulled my legs close to me. “Ads get up!!” Claire cried. I glared at my clock, which read 5:00 am. I was normally up this time of day but I did NOT want to go to school. I had no friends and was practically invisible. I finally stumbled out of bed and grabbed my new ‘uniform’ and got in the shower. I got a quick one then examined my self in the mirror. I didn’t look TOO sick. I dried my hair and combed it. It looked horrible when ... it was straight so I left it curly and pulled it in a low side ponytail. Nah. I just left it down and got dressed. I fingered the hem of my uniform skirt and went to my room. I slid a pair of track shorts under it so I wouldn’t feel completely retarded. I buttoned my blouse and looked in the mirror. Gawd the uniform was ugly. I walked out of my room and down stairs to the kitchen. My dad was putting blueberry muffins on the table. I happily took one as I sat down. I bit into it and my mouth filled with a sweet goodness. “Are you feeling O.K today Addison?” My dad asked. I looked at him and nodded. “I’m fine.” I said. Lemme stop here and explain something to you. I was diagnosed with lymphoma when I was 12. It went away after a year but there was a high risk of it coming back, so my dad was super protective over me, because my mom died from it…Anyways back to my life…
“O.K, Just call me if you start to feel bad.” My dad said. He gave us all a hug, grabbed his lunch and left for work. He is an OBGYN just so you know. So while Claire made my and Emily’s lunches I made sure I had everything for school. Pencils, Books, Binders, Yup that was all. I grabbed my enV2 from my desk where it had been charging and put it in the hidden pocket in the inside of my blazer. I took a quick glance in the mirror and smiled. I actually didn’t look too bad. I gratefully took the paper-bagged lunch and stuck it in my backpack before heading out to catch the bus to Oak Ridge Private Academy.

I walked in the huge oak doors of the school, stepping into a hall way filled with short black skirts and blazers. I looked down at my own knee length skirt and glanced back up and the passing girls, when I realized they had rolled the top of their skirts to make them appear shorter. I put my sunglasses on top of my head and continued walking when a firm hand was placed on my shoulder. I turned to see an elderly man with a stern face standing there. “Umm…Hi?” I asked. “You must be Emily Willis.” He said. “No…that’s my…erm… my friend…” I said. “Ah. So you’re Addison Parker.” He said. “Yes sir.” I said. “Addison, Are you aware sunglasses are against the dress code?” He asked. I felt the top of my head. Crap… “No Sir, I was not aware.” I said. “To be fair, I will let you off with a warning. Next time you are seen breaking the dress code, it is detention for a week.” He said. And with that he walked away.

I walked into my homeroom and sat in the back. Then a group of girls walked in. You know the type. The kind that might have a wind machine blowing their hair, and stick skinny, and beautiful. Well I didn’t want to put up with them so I looked down at my notebook and began doodling when someone tapped on my shoulder. I looked up and saw one of the girls. “That’s my seat.” She said. I looked at her and got up, moving to the seat next to it. Gawd I hated girls like this. I was about to get out my notebook when I noticed a familiar face. I looked up and saw my DAD standing in the threshold of the classroom talking to my teacher. Ms. Lopez was smiling and totally flirting with him!! I scowled and looked down at my paper. My dad walked out and Ms. Lopez went back to normal. “Okay class, we have a new student today, his name is Addison Parker. Addison?” She asked I stood up. “Um I’m sorry Hun, I said Addison.” She said. I rolled my eyes. “That’s me.” I replied. “Oh...Um…Addison tell us a little about yourself.” She said. What was there to tell I could get cancer anytime and my mom is dead? Yea REAL interesting…but that’s all I had. “Well… I moved here from Annapolis.” I said. “Tell us about your parents.” She said, sitting on her desk. “My mom died last year and my dad’s the dude that was just in here…He’s an OBGYN.” I said. I shrugged and sat down, as whispers filled the room about my dad. I sighed and looked down at my book, trying to read it. But as the whispers slowly became a normal level and everyone was talking I heard some girls talking, “OMG, That was her Dad?! How did she turn out that way?” I sighed. I wasn’t ugly was I? Daddy said I looked exactly like my mom…. And my mom was beautiful. I looked down at the textbook again as Ms. Lopez was talking, but nothing seemed to go into my brain. She was talking really fast, and not explaing anything. The next four classes were like that.
