[Skyrim] Killing an Elder Dragon

Possible minor spoilers!

Guildwarsbuddy kept going on about how easily he was killing things whilst in ventrilo, so I decided to try and compare characters a little.
This is my first playthrough of the game and I'm at level 47 whilst having barely started the main quest line at all.
Most of my perks are in heavy armour, one handed axes, block, smithing and enchanting. So really, the only differences between us are that I'm using heavy armour and axes, instead of light and swords.

im at the point where you first come cross an elder dragon. that fucker keeps going nom nom on my face. any tips on how to kill this bitch?

@cdrsportspaintball Depends how you're playing and what you have access to. Some shouts are way more useful than you'd think and your fighting style also changes tactics a lot. If you tell me what you use then I can probably help, unless you're a mage because I haven't used magic yet, lol.

Haha I haven't met any dragons that have actually been a challenge yet. A few lightning bolts and they're on the floor. Dragon Priests are the more difficult enemies.

@Drewxor They've been much more challenging without heavy armour, blocking or smithing/enchanting of any kind.

In fact, on my 2nd playthrough, dragons have been making me down a lot of potions to keep up with them - until I got storm call. :D

And yup, those priests are a huge pain when I have to deal with a frost atronach AND I'm locked in a room with them.

@magicalmike2 I am only just doing some enchanting now, otherwise magic has been enough to get me through, although often it's either kill or be killed in less than 10 seconds :/ I should probably turn the difficulty up (and down again for Priests) xD

@Drewxor I haven't even played with any magic yet, the closest I've got is using some illusion spells on my sneaky guy but I can't afford the perks to keep the spells power up :(

I'm level 81 with all skills maxed and I can only find ancient dragons

@magicalmike2 Ahh yeah, the perks are practically essential to using magic. I wanted to be a mage from the start so I put levels into nothing but magicka and I still didn't have enough to cast some of the higher level spells at all without the perks :(

I've been trying to use some illusion on my sneaky dagger guy too, but like you I just find the other perks more important, the mage guild quests give some OK items to suppliment your magicka iirc.

Im 30 with full daedric, my companion farkas has full dragonplate and Ebony greatsword:D
