The author shows a little of his garden and shows how to dig and plait the garlic stems for hanging and drying.

This is a promotional video for the New England Colonial Living History Group 1680-1760, Armidale NSW, New England Australia.

  • @MTNMANTIM Glad you liked it Tim. I must try drying some garlic.

    Keith.

  • Onions it seems were used in foods, but garlic was mostly used as medicine. The smell from eating garlic apparently stopped the majority of people using garlic in their cooking until after the 18th century.

However, I need to do more research on this. Search engines for instance will not pick up on "old English" words, and, there are other names that were used for garlic. This makes it harder to research, but I will stick with it!

    Regards.

  • Did the colonials cook with garlic regularly? Was it common practice to eat the bulbs raw or did they cook it all. I've seen where onions here in the states where seen the same way as a usefull medicine and culinary additive.
